Peter and Tom Graves, last seen here as members of the victorious ‘Crimson Bears’ (Kent Mitchell RC) and ‘Little Knights’ boats that took the San Diego Crew Classic by storm, are currently racing at the US Trials in hopes of going to the World Championships later this month. And guess what — they’re fast. The duo took their heat on Tuesday with the fastest qualifying time, and headed into the first of two finals earlier today. Despite being down at the halfway point of the race, Pete and Tom dropped the hammer big time on their opponents with 500m to go, and took first place by just over half a second. They’ll try to repeat this amazing performance once more tomorrow in order to make the US National Team and represent the USA at the upcoming World Rowing event, to be held this year in Poznan, Poland.
Good luck you two, and know you’ve got the whole ‘Little Knights’ nation cheering you on from a distance!
In other US Trials news, we have a Martin Reschke (UCLA Class of 2009) sighting. He and Chris DeFelice (member of the 2008 victorious Crimson Bears crew at the Waseda Invitational Regatta in Tokyo, Japan) are in a coxed pair together — and they’re going quite well! They had the first of two finals today, and came up just under three seconds short of Worlds qualifying position. Good luck in the second final!
