I’m a life-long artist, with an academic background in Classical Civilization and a keen interest in athletics. I took up rowing as a college freshman in 2001, and have not let go since. In keeping with this idea, I started a website called RowingRelated in the Fall of 2010 — see the ‘Websites and Blogs’ page for more info, and check out the Twitter updates and RSS feed on the right side of this page for the latest posts.
Experience as an Oarsman
I began rowing in the 2001-2002 season, when I was a freshman in college, and the sport captivated me both in terms of its visual beauty and the physical challenge that it provided. At UCLA, I served as varsity captain for two years, and was named to the Pac-10 All Conference Rowing Team in 2003, as well as to the Pac-10 All Academic Team in 2003.2004 and 2005. Since then, I have competed for the NYAC rowing team (2005-2009), winning US Rowing National Championships as both a lightweight and a heavyweight, placing 2nd in the Men’s LWT VIII at the Head of the Charles, winning the Champ VIII at the Head of the Schuylkill and making the quarterfinals at Henley Royal Regatta. I competed for the London Rowing Club (2007-2008), while earning my MA in Classical Art & Archaeology, and medaled in international regattas in Galicia, Spain, and Ghent, Belgium. Since coming back from the UK, I’ve had the honor to compete with the Little Knights RC, as well as the Crimson Bears RC, both based in California. Most recently, I raced the 2010 Head of the Charles with Marin Rowing Association, and won the Men’s Open Eight at the 2011 San Diego Crew Classic with the Little Knights.
I have also done my share of coaching, both on the water and in the gym, as an assistant frosh coach for UCLA in 2006, as an assistant coach for the MAC Juniors Program in Los Angeles in 2009, and as an Indo-Row ™ coach from 2006-2009, working with Josh Crosby. I began coaching at Pacific Rowing Club in San Francisco in 2009, and am a member of the Dolphin Club.
